Rockwell Makes The Finals For Business Thinking Initiative

Food packaging and lidding film company Rockwell Solutions beat off a host of competition to make it to the finals in HSBC’s Business Thinking Initiative for 2011.

The ever-growing company has forged a market leading position in the global sector of food packaging. Rockwell Solutions was described as a highly evolving and innovative local business by the judging panel who were very impressed with the high standard of their submission, “clearly demonstrating great business thinking”.

Rockwell Solutions can provide a complete service, from product consultation to recommendation, to research & development, right through to manufacturing.

A keen focus on the changing state of our customers' applications and markets and a firm belief that 'good enough' is never good enough.

These are the key factors that keeps Rockwell at the cutting edge of flexible packaging technology.

The company can offer solutions for a huge number of applications in a wide variety of circumstances. It is a specialists in:

• Laminates
• Lidding films for every application including ready meals trays
• Barrier films including overcoated and gas flushable films
• Thermoforming application films
• Portion packaging films
• Liquid packaging films
• Anti-mist films
• Powder packing films

Rockwell is a privately owned family company based in Dundee, Scotland.

For many years, Rockwell was involved in standard printed packaging, a reasonably simple and generic product category. However, in the late 90's, the focus turned to actually making a difference to the client. Adding functionality, creating new options and possibilities. In other words, giving our clients added value.

The focus now is almost completely on specialised packaging, and Rockwell service many household names in the food industry.

White Paper On Leak Detection following Successful Trials From Piotec
Piotec, which specialises in 100% inline, non-destructive leak detection for sealed packaging, has recently carried out a number of very successful trials with companies who were unable to find a solution to prevent leaking packs reaching the supermarkets and ultimately the consumer.

During the trials, the technology has been proven to test each individual pack coming from the production line and will detect and automatically remove 100% of leaking packs, regardless of packaging type and gas used.

Customers have commented on the repeatability of the test method to detect leaks as small as 10 microns.

Piotec's machines are bespoke to suit each individual customer requirement in terms of line speeds and packaging, integration with production lines etc

The range includes Seal Solo which are manual offline machines, to Seal Plus which are inline machines testing each individual pack.

As a result of the success of the trials, Piotec has produced a white paper to help customers better understand the importance of leak detection, not only to remove every leaking pack, but to provide management information, and to drive process improvement.

The white paper, entitled ‘Achieving Zero Defects in Packaging Seal Quality’, is available through the company website – www.piotec.eu
