New Hen-hugging Quiches And Scotch Eggs From Happy Egg Hit The Shelves
The happy egg co is rolling out a range of 170g single serve quiches and introducing its own range of branded Scotch Eggs and Savoury Eggs to stores nationwide.
The launch of 170g quiches follows the success of the larger sharing-size quiches, which were launched by the happy egg co. in June.
The Scotch Egg and Savoury Egg launch is the latest development for the company, whose philosophy reads “hens come first.”
All of the products will initially be stocked in Tesco Express stores where they have replaced the sharing size quiches, which have now secured listings in Tesco stores nationwide.
They will launch into Sainsbury’s at the end of November.
The Scotch Eggs, a new innovation for the brand, will priced at £1.49 for a 2-pack and £1.49 for a pack of 12 Savoury Eggs and will add a branded option to what’s traditionally been an own-label driven category.
Rob Newell, Head of Brands at the happy egg co. said: “We know that consumers really relate to the values of the happy egg co. and we wanted to give retailers and consumers more ways to enjoy the eggs we produce.
“Whilst there are some retail offerings that contain free range eggs, our consumer research identified that this is often not clear to shoppers.
“We see Scotch eggs as a natural progression from shell eggs and an exciting way to break into a new category.
“NPD is very important to our brand and growth plans and it is something retailers and consumers will see more of in the coming months.”
The whole egg Scotch Eggs two-packs will launch in October followed by 12 packs of smaller, Savoury Eggs and new 170g single-serve quiches in November.
The brand is also launching a new larger sharing-sized, 400g quiche range, which was launched by the happy egg co. in early 2011 are now available on shelves at larger Tesco stores, priced at £2.49.
The happy egg co. quiches will also be available in 2x120g snack-pack versions, which will be stocked on snack trolleys on trains across the UK.

Get Your Teeth Into Festive Grumpies This Christmas
A Cornish gourmet pie company is celebrating its first Christmas in business with the launch of two products specially created for the festive season.
Launceston based Grumpies of Cornwall have developed a stress free alternative to the traditional Christmas dinner with a handmade turkey, cranberry and stuffing pie, and a roast vegetable, stilton and chestnut version.
Co-founder of Grumpies, Trevor Shea said: “We’ve spent six weeks developing this pie and we’ve tested so many trying to get it right that by the time it comes to sit down with my family and enjoy my Christmas dinner, I think I’ll enjoy roast beef!
“In all seriousness, now that the pies are ready to go, we’re looking forward to hearing the feedback of our customers.”
Grumpies duo Mark Carne and Trevor Shea will also be showcasing their pies at events around Cornwall in the run up to Christmas.
The first chance for the public to try the new pies is in Fowey on Saturday 26 and Sunday, 27 November for the annual Christmas Market.
“We’ve developed these products with our chefs and we thinks it’s important that we get out there ourselves and introduce them to our customers face to face.”
The following weekend they will be at St Ives Christmas market on December 3 and Bude on December 4.
After their success at the Falmouth Oyster Festival, Grumpies are returning to Falmouth for their final Christmas market appearance from December 15 - 18.
Reflecting on their first year in business, co-founder Mark Carne says: “We’ve been massively encouraged by the response of the general public to these pies. The feedback we’ve had has been extremely positive. The challenge we’ve got now is to make these pies easily available to our fan base.”
All Grumpies products are made to the ethos of ‘serious about food’ and contain the best local ingredients, including local vegetables, Cornish ale and meat.
Looking ahead to next year, Mr Carne says: “We are going to continue trying our very best to increase the number of outlets from which these pies are available. We’re also going to be working harder than ever in the kitchen. As well as a completely new range of products, we’re also going to make a gluten free pie as we’ve had several requests from customers.”
All Grumpies products are free from artificial additives, preservatives and processed ingredients, to create a product with a home cooked quality.
The pies can be purchased in selected delis and farm shops around Cornwall or online at www.foodfromcornwall.co.uk
