| Make The Move From 2D To 3D Factory With CAD Schroer Software |
|
|
|
Numerous Owner/Operators and engineering project managers still plan their factories in 2D. Contemplating a move to 3D, many worry about the software’s complexity or the implementation burden; but the transition need not be a painful one.
With complex, high tech production lines designed to efficiently use vertical spaces during manufacturing, the spatial element in planning, interference checking, and visualising a factory design becomes ever more vital: A 3D approach makes it easy to communicate plans, and to create high quality designs, avoiding expensive mistakes during construction. For many engineering departments, however, it seems like a big leap.
“Our researchers speak to myriads of UK manufacturers using standard 2D CAD software for their factory layouts. Most, while aware of the benefits of a 3D approach, have experienced the limits imposed by 3D modelling tools for product (not facility) design, or been shocked by the implementation time and effort associated with some plant design packages, too costly and complex for their needs,” explains Mark Simpson of engineering software experts CAD Schroer.
“Recent research in Germany tells a similar story, with most users quoting ease of use and quick implementation as some of the most important criteria when choosing new products . This is exactly where MPDS4 comes in; it not only offers easy implementation with its integrated 2D/3D approach, but also provides all the tools for high performance, large-scale standard-compliant design.”
CAD Schroer are experts in easing the transition from 2D to 3D CAD. Its MPDS4 FACTORY LAYOUT software is easy to learn even for exclusive 2D users, who can import existing drawings to create the foundation for fast 3D layouts and walk-through visualisations. The QuickStart service further ramps up productivity.
“Our QuickStart package gets a project off the ground in around 15 days,” Mark explains.
“We supply everything clients need to tackle a factory refurbishment or adaptation project in a quality controlled 2D to 3D design environment: We install and implement the software, usually in one day, and get users up to speed in three to five days. We can model the existing factory, or a planned new process line in existing spaces, quality checking any 2D drawings or 3D files provided. We then supply the 3D lifecycle model clients need to plan subsequent changes and visualise them in 3D.” |

| 3D Modelling Software For Factory Saves Time And Money |
|
|
|
Engineers in the competitive food processing sector are driven by the need to design efficient, profitable facilities.
At CFIA Metz (France) and PPMA (UK), CAD Schroer’s software impressed with its fast and flexible 3D approach to factory projects.
At the CFIA Metz agrofood event, and the PPMA processing and packaging machinery show, CAD Schroer met with factory operators, engineering project management companies, and system integrators. Its MPDS4 2D to 3D factory layout software, and its factory modelling service, are designed to get new build or modification projects moving quickly.
“Our factory modelling service greatly interested Owner/Operators, who say that keeping track of their inventory and ever changing layouts is very time-consuming and expensive without the right tools,” explains Pierre Crabbe of CAD Schroer France.
“Many food processers only have 2D drawings of their factory layouts,” agrees UK Sales Manager Bill Wilkins, “When it’s time to expand operations or move facilities, they find that much is outdated. We help by modelling existing factories, then providing the MPDS4 design software for making changes in a quality controlled manner, providing 3D visualisations, as well as full project documentation for contractors.”

| Ease Of Use Wins Trace One Software Delhaize Contract |
|
|
|
International retailer, Delhaize thas announced it has deployed Trace One’s Packaging Portal software as part of a three year contract in Belgium.
Delhaize will use the software to reduce administration around the packaging process, as well as gather business intelligence on the product lifecycle in order to increase time to market.
The retailer has over 7,000 private label food and non-food products and works with over 800 suppliers. It chose Trace One against three other companies due to the ease of use of its software, as well as the size of its existing supplier base already trained in using the portal.
“We wanted to get a better understanding and visibility of the entire packaging process to see where bottlenecks might be and therefore make improvements to enhance efficiency,” commented Naomi Kaempfer, head of design at Delhaize. “By gathering this information, we can continue to meet our business objective to offer the top quality local products that we are known for internationally. Trace One’s software will allow us to do this in a measurable way and ultimately increase profits; we chose to work with the company as its software was the most workable and easiest to understand.”
Delhaize has a range of food and non-food products including home and hygiene ranges. The Belgian market will use the Packaging Portal to enable full visibility of the product lifecycle process in order to improve workflows. As well as 800 suppliers, others that will access the portal include buyers, quality analysts, labeling and packaging professionals, marketing departments, product managers, food safety managers, as well as external parties, including design agencies and translators. Delhaize will benefit from an online collaboration tool that will enable it to improve the private label packaging process through a more synchronized approach and allowing for more effective decision making.
As well as reducing time to market, other benefits of using the portal include reduced errors in packaging due to web proofing, real-time tracking and automated emails; a single version of the truth as everybody will work online on the same document and receive emails to validate work; and reuse of work as all information is accessible online and can be updated and reused as appropriate.
“As one of the largest manufacturers of private label in Europe with 50% of its products being own label, Delhaize clearly recognises the market opportunity. We are delighted to have been chosen and look forward to helping the retailer increase visibility of the product lifecycle process and reduce its time to market, building on our existing customer base of 10,000 manufacturers and 19 retailers,” commented Marc Bonnamour, COO at Trace One.
