TQS Food Consulting Pick Up Top Technologist Gong At SOFHT Awards
Karen Sargant, Client Services Director at Bristol-based TQS Tec-Specs, part of TQS Food Consulting has been awarded the Technologist of the Year Award by the Society of Food Hygiene Technology (SOFHT), the organisation that promotes best practice in food safety and hygiene.
Karen, who was presented with the accolade by Society Chairman, Simon Houghton Dodd at SOFHT’s recent annual awards luncheon in London, has worked in the food industry for more than 20 year. At TQS Food Consulting Karen is responsible for assisting food manufacturers with meeting the technical specifications required by grocery retailers and has specific experience with Sainsbury’s Tesco, Asda and Morrisons. She also advises on quality certification schemes such as the British Retail Consortium (BRC) which many food manufacturers also undergo.
Established in 2002, TQS Food Consulting offers advice and practical support on food safety quality assurance to the food, drink and allied industries. This is the second time that TQS Food Consulting has been recognised by SOFHT, having won Company of the Year (under 100 employees) in 2006.

Greggs Technical Director Headlines SOFHT Pathogenic Bacteria Seminar
Bill Wadsworth, Technical Director at Greggs will be speaking on the Importance of Pathogenic Bacteria at a Breakfast Seminar being held by the Society of Food Hygiene Technology (SOFHT) on 8 March 2012.
With the spectrum of bacteria likely to cause disease broadening, Bill Wadsworth will discuss the business challenges presented by pathogenic bacteria with case studies of the solutions chosen to safeguard both products and customers.
In addition, Thelma Hooper, Microbiology Group Technical Manager at Alcontrol Laboratories will present an overview of the type of pathogen testing avialable to meet compliance, as well as exploring the rationale behind the methods used. Culprit organisms under the microscope will be Campylobacter, Salmonella, Listeria monocytogenes and E. coli 0157.
Breakfast Seminar attendees will have the opportunity to seek guidance on detecting pathogens, air concerns, or discuss their requirements by contributing to a Q & A session after each speaker’s presentation.
